The activity was organised by the Territorial Integrated Programme (PTI) “Competitive Development of the Fjords and Channels of Aysén”, led by Corfo, and executed by Greetech Chile, including three days of technical visits to supplier companies in the aquaculture sector in the Los Lagos Region.
Puerto Montt as a technological hub for Chile’s salmon industry
The main objective of the tour was to explore developments, technological solutions, and management models implemented by established companies providing services to the salmon industry from Puerto Montt, capital of the country’s main salmon farming cluster.
During the programme, the delegation visited the facilities of:
(companies specialised in technology, industrial services, automation, and solutions for salmon grow-out sites).
Prior to the visits, the group took part in an aquaculture entrepreneurship workshop, where they exchanged experiences with representatives from the sector ecosystem, including Gonzalo Romero (Corfo’s Mesoregional Sustainable Salmon Programme), Gonzalo Silva from Consejo del Salmón AG, Rodrigo Salas from Corfo Los Lagos, Sergio Martínez from DVS Tecnología, and Paulo Jorquera from ChucaoTec.
Linkages between Aysén and Los Lagos: competitiveness and networks
The tour helped strengthen productive linkages between suppliers from Aysén and established companies in Los Lagos, expanding contact networks and exploring opportunities for certification, collaboration, and the provision of local services to salmon grow-out sites located in the Aysén Region.
Jenny Bórquez, general manager of Redes de Aysén, highlighted that directly engaging with companies based in the Los Lagos Region represents “a tremendous opportunity to improve our services and identify new possibilities for implementation in Aysén”.
In the same vein, Marco Medel, Industrial Maintenance Services supervisor at Gladys Guaquin, valued the technical knowledge gained during the visits, while Sergio Montecinos, operations manager at Kuntur, emphasised the importance of building synergies and networks between both regions.
Territorial development and integration of the supplier sector
For Ismael Infante, manager of the PTI Fjords and Channels of Aysén, the experience made it possible to assess the level of development reached by the aquaculture industry in Puerto Montt and, at the same time, to strengthen coordination between local suppliers and large companies operating salmon grow-out sites in Aysén.
“Most of the companies visited provide services in our region. These initiatives allow us to expand networks and generate opportunities for local suppliers to become certified and offer more immediate services from Aysén,” he said.
This type of initiative is part of the model of productive technical visits promoted by Greetech Chile to strengthen territorial integration within the aquaculture supplier sector and consolidate southern Chile as a hub of innovation in salmon farming.
