Territorial coordination to strengthen the aquaculture industry

Within the framework of the Territorial Integrated Programme (PTI) “Competitive Development of the Fjords and Channels of Aysén”, a delegation of supplier companies from the Aysén Region carried out a technology tour to Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas, with the aim of gaining first-hand insight into the experiences, solutions, and management models present in the salmon farming ecosystem of the Los Lagos Region.

The initiative sought to strengthen coordination between regional suppliers and established companies in the sector, promoting knowledge exchange, network building, and the identification of collaboration opportunities.

Visits to technology providers

Over three working days, the delegation visited production facilities and operational centres of key supplier companies within the Chilean salmon industry.

The programme included visits to Patagonia ROV, specialised in underwater robotics; ScaleAQ Chile, an international aquaculture equipment supplier; Sitecna, a shipyard with extensive experience in floating infrastructure; SAUT Automatización, a Chilean company with international presence in industrial automation; GoodWood, focused on the reuse of plastic materials; and Sorken, a manufacturer of aquaculture nets and mooring solutions.

Each visit included technical presentations, facility tours, and direct exchanges with company executives and operational teams.

Dialogue and knowledge exchange

The tour began with an aquaculture entrepreneurship workshop in Puerto Montt, providing a platform to address shared challenges within the supplier segment and to exchange experiences related to innovation, management, and technological development.

This working format facilitated interaction between companies from both regions, strengthening relationships that may lead to future collaborations.

Field experience as a development tool

This type of initiative highlights the importance of technical visits as a mechanism for practical learning and territorial coordination.

The experience enabled the delegation to assess the level of technological specialisation achieved by supplier companies in southern Chile, as well as to identify opportunities to further develop the aquaculture sector in the Aysén Region.

The overall organisation and logistical coordination of the tour included transport, accommodation, a technical agenda, and on-site support, ensuring the proper execution of each scheduled activity.

Consolidating a model of productive industrial tourism

This technology tour illustrates how industrial tourism applied to the aquaculture sector can contribute to strengthening regional capabilities, promoting knowledge exchange, and fostering integration between productive territories in southern Chile.
